Water sports on Cyprus’s East Coast

The long flat sandy beaches along the Islands East coast are ideal for all types of water sports activities, and the warm Mediterranean is the perfect place for the novice to learn how to water board or ski for the first time. The popular resorts of Ayia Napa, Protaras, and Pernera, with their safe sandy beaches and outstanding facilities offer a full range of water sports from the sedate to the exhilarating.

Serious Cyprus water sports

If you are a serious water sports enthusiast, you won’t have to travel far along the East Coast from the main resorts to catch the winds that you need for some great wind and kite surfing. A few kilometers west of the bustling resort of Ayia Napa is the much lesser know area of Ayia Thekla with its rugged coast line. Littered with ancient solidified volcanic magma that stretches out onto the seabed, it sits between the rocky outcrop of Cape Greco and the long flat beaches of Larnaca bay. Landward winds and choppy waters are a prominent feature of the area, making it perfect for wave hopping kite surfers.

A few kilometers along the coast towards the old port town of Larnaca, lie several miles of smooth flat sandy beaches that are easily accessed directly off the Dhekelia Road. This whole area is also a wind trap and favorite spot among ardent wind surfers. If you want wind or kite surfing lessons and equipment hire, there are a number of reputable businesses that offer exactly that scattered all along the Dhekelia road.

Cyprus water sports for all

Whether you are a thrill seeking adrenalin junkie looking to be scared witless, or you just want to spend a leisurely hour messing about in a kayak, Cyprus is the perfect place for your water sports holiday.
