Walking in areas of outstanding natural beauty in Cyprus
The rugged remoteness of the Cape Greco nature reserve with its sea caves and panoramic views over Konnos Bay offers walking on well made paths, through what is aptly described as “an area of outstanding natural beauty”. In fact, the Island is virtually littered with natural parks and designated walks from the coastal resorts through to the Troodos Mountains.
Walking in Troodos, Cyprus
There is little doubt that the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus are one of the Islands most visited areas of outstanding natural beauty. Most of the area remains unspoiled apart from the construction of a series of crushed aggregate footpaths that have made the area accessible to walkers of all abilities. With its high altitude of 1952m above sea level at the peak of mount Olympus, walkers are guaranteed a welcome respite from the scorching summer temperatures of the interior. The Troodos area is beautiful at anytime of the year, and there is a wealth of heritage and culture up there too if you ever get tired of walking.
Cyprus coastal walks
Local municipalities all across Cyprus have recently invested some hefty amounts of money into improving their coastal walks, or even putting them into where there were no existing tracks at all. Tastefully constructed boardwalks and hard paved walkways now wind along many miles of resort coastline. These walks are well lit after dark and there are even plenty of thoughtfully installed drinking fountains to slate a walker’s thirst during the warm sunny days. The costal walks in Cyprus are ideal for walkers of all abilities and many of them are also baby stroller and wheelchair friendly too.
A Cyprus walk for everyone
Whether you are looking to do some serious hiking away from the beaten track, visit some of the Islands many historic sites, or just take a gentle stroll along the coastline, Cyprus has plenty to offer.
